National Service Scheme (NSS) is an active program run by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India for the personality development of the youth of the nation. The students participating in its activities, along with the people of the society, do work for the benefit of the society. Literacy related work, environmental protection, health and cleanliness, assistance to the victims during emergency or natural disaster etc. By being engaged in socially useful work right from their student days, they develop the qualities of social service or national service.
